Getting Started

I am the Lead AI Programmer and Assistant Quality Assurance Programmer for this project. There have been many steps taken already to get the game ready for development and implementation. My goal is to always try to make it easier on my teammates when I am not in charge of a task, and to review all completed/semi-completed tasks for quality.

Jira and Confluence

I initially set up the Jira board and Confluence for the team. When it was discovered that we needed to switch to a studio only account, I made sure all documentation was ported over correctly so the team had access to all the old information and documents. Communication is key - especially for a remote team - so I created a calendar and collected information about the team so we could keep track of due dates, time zones, and information we would need to reference frequently while working on this project.
I setup the pitch document in Confluence to ensure everyone had access and could edit as needed, removing the necessity for us all to be on at the same time and have a single editor of the document. When the document was complete, I was able to review it with the others and check it for formatting, syntax, and any other edits that needed to be made before submission.
Since we do not yet have the project or prototype available, I found video to supplement the pitch and aid the editor in consolidating the information for presentation.
The next important document was the Prioritized Feature List, which I set up the same way. Once everyone had a chance to contribute, I went through and reviewed the information. I fixed any formatting issues, repetition, and brought up any issues I saw in the discussion with the team. By the end of the document review, I think we were all feeling much more confident in the priorities, plans and design of the game.

Itch.io page

I took responsibility for the setup of the itch.io project page, including:
- creating the images
- updating the settings
- uploading the pitch video to YouTube so it could be included on this page
- rewording the description and tag for the game for use on this page
- setting the initial color palette
- adding most of the admins with the information I had at the time

Normally this post would be about the implementation of the game, however, there has been some issue in the setup of Perforce and getting everyone synced. Since I am most familiar with GitHub and haven't used Perforce before, I am currently limited in how I can help. The best I can do at the moment is to ensure communication is active, research, provide documentation and reminders, do my best to solve problems for my own tasks on my own time, and share what I learn afterwards with the group in hopes it will help someone else overcome their hurdles. There is always a time to ask for assistance, but I like to try to solve it on my own (for at least a certain period of time) before looking to others. This promotes confidence that the items I am tasked with will get done, and do not need to be tracked and micromanaged by other members or managers.
